SENDING ARTWORK TO SWAGPEOPLE

EMAIL ARTWORK TO A REPRESENTATIVE

If you are placing an order through a SwagPeople Customer representative, you may instead prefer to email your artwork files to your representative directly or utilize one of the below methods.

ARTWORK FILE PREPARATION

As the leading online Printing and Graphics Superstore, SwagPeople can produce effective, print-ready artwork from almost any kind of file or drawing given to us by our customers. We can work with a wide range of file types, created both in Macintosh and PC. Please note however that only professionally prepared files – created correctly in approved programs, as described below, will avoid any additional artwork fees from SwagPeople.

Please stuff or compress your files before you send them to SwagPeople. This will usually prevent your artwork files from being corrupted from traveling through the internet. The two most popular programs for compressing files are Stuffit (for Mac) and Winzip (for PC), which can be downloaded for free (evaluation versions).

When deciding what program to use for your art preparation, there is a general rule for graphics: If the product the printing is going on isn’t flat, it has to be vector art, built in either Illustrator, In Design, or Freehand. You should always contact the SwagPeople Customer Service department if you have any questions whatsoever about artwork preparation.

PREFERRED APPLICATIONS AND INSTRUCTIONS:

SwagPeople supports the most current versions of the following preferred applications, as well as all versions of these same applications released within the last 5 years.

ILLUSTRATOR CS:

Convert ALL type to “outlines.” Send ALL support files (scans, logos, etc.) placed or used in the document, line art preferred.

PHOTOSHOP CS:

Grayscale images are acceptable for photo-like images, but not for text. For offset and full-color items, files must be CMYK at 300 dpi or higher. If possible, send layered files (not flattened). For SILK SCREEN imprints, only B & W line art files at 600 dpi or higher are acceptable.

QUARK XPRESS 5.0:

Send ALL support files (scans, logos, etc.) placed or used in the document, plus fonts. Quark XPress has a function, “Collect for output” which will automatically collect the necessary included fonts and graphics.

PAGEMAKER 7.0:

Send ALL fonts and images (scans, logos, etc.) used in the document.

FREEHAND:

COREL DRAW:

Must be exported into Illustrator. Convert ALL type to “curves.” Send ALL support files (scans, logos, etc.) placed or used in the document.

IN DESIGN:

Convert ALL type to “outlines.” Send ALL support files (scans, logos, etc.) placed or used in the document, line art preferred. In Design has a function, “Package for print” which will automatically collect the necessary included fonts and graphics.

ACROBAT PDF:

PDF art files work well if the PDF was created from a vector art program, such as Adobe Illustrator. All type should get converted to outlines, if possible, before a PDF file is created. PDF files will be preflighted, on a case by case basis to determine the usability of the file and any extra work that may be necessary to rebuild the artwork. When creating a PDF, remember to include .125″ on all sides if the artwork bleeds, convert colors to CMYK or designate a PMS number, and make sure there is no compression on the text or graphics.
